LoadPulseCase study

The brief

API teams need to know what breaks under load without wiring up k6, InfluxDB and Grafana themselves. LoadPulse runs the tests and shows the results in one place.

Decisions worth explaining

API and worker kept apart

Test execution runs in its own process, pulling jobs from a queue, so a heavy load test never blocks the dashboard.

Two kinds of data, two stores

Time-series metrics live in InfluxDB where Grafana can read them directly; accounts, tests and runs live in PostgreSQL.

What we built

Product

  • Next.js dashboard
  • Six executor types: constant and ramping virtual users, constant and ramping arrival rate, per-user and shared iterations
  • Workspaces with team membership
  • API keys and Swagger documentation

Backend

  • Fastify API
  • Worker process executing k6 tests from a Redis queue
  • PostgreSQL through Prisma
  • InfluxDB metrics streamed into pre-built Grafana dashboards filtered per run

Operations

  • Docker Compose development environment
  • Railway deploy configuration

Stack

  • Next.js
