The brief

UK universities, colleges and research institutes post academic roles described in academic vocabulary: subject, study level, a named role such as external examiner, and contract length. Scholars build free profiles in the same vocabulary and receive ranked matches.

Decisions worth explaining

A taxonomy, not tags

An academic taxonomy is the data model instead of free-text tags, so posts and people are described in the same vocabulary and can be matched on it.

Matching, not keyword search

A matching engine scores every scholar against every active post and shows a match percentage, instead of relying on keyword search.

One email, two roles

One email address can hold both a scholar account and an institution account, because the same person often wears both hats.
